Three South Coast Squads Part of Men's Water Polo State Top 10

The South Coast Conference 2024 men's water polo race is shaping up to be another tight one as four teams are playing well in the early going.
Three SCC squads are ranked on the latest CCCWPCA State Top 10 in Long Beach City College at #4, Cerritos at #8, and defending conference champion Mt. San Antonio at #10.
Meanwhile, El Camino has had a terrific start to year at 13-4 and was 2-0 in SCC play at the time of this release.
LBCC (7-2 overall record) is led by returning All-SCC First Team attacker Sandro Pueyo, who had 29 goals through the team's first nine games. The Vikings' losses are against current state #1 West Valley, 17-5, in the season opener and v. 7-time defending 3C2A champion Golden West, 13-6. Long Beach beat #7 Cuesta, 11-10 and won its conference opener v. Chaffey, 23-6, on Sept. 18.
Cerritos (8-6) is paced by returning All-SCC First Team selection Tim Robles, who leads the conference in steals (37, fourth in state) and scored 44 goals during the team's first 14 contests. The Falcons are 2-0 in SCC play with routs over Rio Hondo, 18-2, and Chaffey, 23-3. Cerritos had a good showing at the Air Force Academy Tournament, including a 13-12 win over the University of La Verne and only losing to the Air Force Club, 16-15.
Mt. SAC (11-8) started SCC play with a 20-10 triumph over Rio Hondo, but is 0-4 so far v. State Top 10 teams, including two defeats v. Golden West. Nicolas Lara leads the Mounties in goals with 30.
El Camino opened the season with a 7-game win streak and scored an impressive 34 goals in a win over San Diego Mesa (34-16). The Warriors have top 10 defeats v. #3 LA Valley, 18-9, and #5 Orange Coast, 16-12. ECC boasts the SCC's leading scorer Robbie Josic, who is third in the state in goals with 55.
Rio Hondo (4-8) is resuming the sport after not being able to field a team last year. The Roadrunners have a solid perfomer in Matthew Reynoso, who has 28 goals. RHC defeated fellow SCC foe Chaffey in a tournament game, 13-8,and has an 18-8 SCC loss to El Camino in an 0-3 start to conference play.
Chaffey (3-9) has a top scorer in Vincent Garibay, who has poured in 36 goals in 12 games. The Panthers, 0-3 in SCC play thus far, has two victories this year v. Santa Monica.
