Mt. SAC Student-Athletes Selected For 2025 Don MacKenzie Scholarship Awards

Two Mt. San Antonio student-athletes Elleanna Ramos and Pablo Nunez are the South Coast Conference 2025 Don MacKenzie Scholarship Award winners.

The SCC will award the two Mounties $1,000 each.

The MacKenzie Scholarships annually go to student-athletes who exhibit strong academics and high performance on the field of play. In several cases, the student-athletes chosen are ones who also have overcome obstacles and involve themselves in community service. The awards honor the memory of MacKenzie, the long-time SCC commissioner from 1979 until his passing in 2004.

Ramos earned many outstanding honors as a member of the first 3C2A state champion Mt. SAC women's swim team earlier this year. In helping the Mounties to the team crown, she won the 200-yard butterfly state gold medal at the state meet held at Santa Rosa Junior College in May. Ramos picked up a silver in the 100 butterfly and participated on both state champ 200 and 400 medley relay swims.

At the SCC Championships, she broke the conference record in the 200 fly and also was on another conference record 400 medley relay. In her two seasons, Ramos won all four individual South Coast titles in the butterfly events and she set four Mt. SAC school records. A psychology major, she held a 3.9 GPA and she volunteered at pediatric therapy clinics, working with developed mentally disabled children.

Nunez helped the 2024 Mounties to win the 3C2A state men's track and field championship, capturing a bronze medal in the pole vault. Last year, he was selected for the prestigious Mt. SAC Henry Davis Award for Most Inspirational Athlete. A 3.6 GPA student, Nunez overcame many challenges, including carrying part-time jobs and a long commute from Moreno Valley to campus each day while training with his team and becoming a model student in the classroom.

He volunteered at many Mt. SAC-hosted sporting events. Nunez has transferred to Cal State Long Beach as a business administration major.
