LBCC Women's Water Polo Continues SCC Dominance Into 2025
As defending 3C2A state champion, Long Beach City College continues its domination in the sport of women's water polo, including an impressive winning streak in South Coast Conference play.
The Vikings are the current state #1-ranked team this season with a perfect 10-0 record through games of Sept. 25. Long Beach is 2-0 in SCC play, stretching its win streak to 85 in a row v. South Coast opponents that goes back to 2015. Against 3C2A opponents, LBCC holds a current 47-game win streak going back to last year.
Long Beach already has two lopsided shutout wins over Ventura (23-0) and Chaffey, 22-0, in its SCC opener, among their victories. LBCC was challenged in a 7-3 triumph over #2-ranked Santa Barbara City College and in a 17-15 win over #6 Orange Coast.
Four SCC teams are off to 2-0 starts to conference play including #10 Cerritos (5-3 overall), Mt. San Antonio (7-7) and El Camino (3-4). The Vikings are trying to accomplish their 10th straight South Coast title.
The Falcons have lost to #4 Cuesta and #8 San Diego Miramar. Mt. SAC, No. 9 on the South Top 10, has won five straight after toiling through a tough early schedule that included losses to #3 American River, Cuesta (twice, the second by an 11-7 score), #7 Fullerton, SD Miramar, and #9 Sierra. The Mounties have four wins over NorCal Top 10 squads in Cabrillo (twice), Modesto, and Las Positas.
Like the other three SCC leaders, El Camino started conference play successfully with an 11-6 win over East Los Angeles and an 18-2 triumph over Pasadena City.
Individually, LBCC is paced by returning All-SCC First Team selections in Mar Bernal, who has a team-leading 19 goals, and Jennifer Connelly (13 goals) along with newcomer Amy Fritz, who has 17 goals.
Cerritos is paced by current conference assists leader Jasmine Escorcia (14 goals, 17 helpers) and Monserrat Rodriguez, who leads the SCC in steals with 23 and tops the Falcons in goals with 16.
Mt. SAC has the SCC's scoring leader in Nathaly Mora, who has netted 32 goals, and another solid peformer in Jessica Luna, who has totaled 16 goals and 16 assists.
El Camino is led by Olivia Mozian with 21 goals. Other top players from SCC teams are returning All-SCC performer and goalie Brisa Ayala (SCC-high 88 saves) from East Los Angeles, Chaffey's Alyssa Garcia (14 goals), '24 All-SCC First Teamer Emily Narvaez from Rio Hondo, and Pasadena's lettermen goalie Rae Jiao.
The SCC Championship Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 6-8 at Cerritos College.
