SOUTH COAST CONFERENCE STATE CHAMPIONS

STATE MEET RESULTS

Mt. San Antonio College dominated the 48th edition of the 3C2A State Women's Cross Country Championships to win the program's fourth state team crown in the past five seasons at Fresno's Woodward Park on Saturday.

It was Mt. SAC's 13th state championship. And with Long Beach City College women's water polo first-place trophy also accomplished over the weekend, it adds to the South Coast Conference history of state titles, now at 248.

Mt. SAC also picked up milestone state title No. 50 for all women's sports (SCC-best 76 crowns for both genders) while winning the 18th by a South Coast team in cross country, the first accomplished by Orange Coast in 1980. Mt. SAC started its title run with a 1988 championship.

The Mounties had a 65-point differential from the second place team finisher Orange Coast to score 50 points--paced by Sophia Ebiner in ninth (18:19.3), Jocelyn Izarraraz-Rodriguez in 10th, Casey McConn in 13th, Kaitlin Reyes in 15th, and Ariana Amezcua placing 16th.

This year's championship featured 169 athletes representing 39 colleges in the 3.1 miles race. The SCC was represented with two other races joining Mt. SAC's scorers in the top 20 in SCC individual champion/El Camino's Jadeyn Skefich in sixth (18:16.2) and LA Harbor harrier Angie Morales in 12th.

Other South Coast representatives finishing in the top 40 were Long Beach City's Itzel Aguilar in 28th, East Los Angeles' Xitali Gomez in 39th and Pasadena City's Camila Gonzalez in 40th.

Of the 61 runners who finished below the 20-minute mark, 18 were from SCC teams including Cerritos' top racer Jayla Barnwell in 59th place.
