SCC Pentathlon Kicks Off 2025 Swim Season
SCC Pentathlon Complete Results
The South Coast Conference kicked off the 2025 men's and women's swim season at the annual SCC Pentathlon held Feb. 7 at East Los Angeles College.
WOMEN HIGHLIGHTS
Mt. San Antonio College won the 200-yard medley relay behind the swimming of Paige Fast, Spencer Damaske, Elleanna Ramos and Carolyn Kao in a time of 1:54.92.
El Camino's Iyanah Samayoa won two events as she placed first in the 200 individual medley (IM) in 2:15.71 and 100 breaststroke in 1:08.31. She was second in both the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly and her cumulative time of 6:26.60 won her the penthatlon title.
The pentathlon combines the times of the five individual events that were swam.
Mt. SAC's Ramos captured the 100 butterfly as the only swimmer to break the minute mark in 59.30 seconds and Mounties teammate Fast was just that in winning the 100 backstroke in 1:02.98. Kao took home first in the 100 freestyle in 54.95. Damaske was second in the 100 breaststroke while Kao scored second in both the 200 IM and 100 fly.
Long Beach City, last year's SCC team champion, is paced this season so far by Avery White, who placed third in the 100 back and 100 breaststroke.
Cerritos has a solid swimmer in Sydney Romero, who was seventh in the 200 IM.
East Los Angeles is paced by Megan Duong (28th in the 200 IM) and Chaffey by Kaitlin McCarthy (36th same event). Pasadena City's top swimmer is Emily Wang (41st) while Rio Hondo is led by Lacy Claburn (47th).
MEN HIGHLIGHTS
Mt. SAC, last season's SCC team champion, started off strong with a 200 medley relay win (1:36.75), led by Michael Dibello, Luke Marsden, Ethan Lopez and Ray Chun.
The Mountie Marsden had the top pentathlon combined time at 5:41.29.
Chaffey's Zixi Xu scored two event victories, winning the 100 butterfly (52.40) and 100 freestyle (48.33) while Long Beach's Nathaniel D'Aloisio was victorious in the 200 IM at 1:59.1,
Dibello hit the wall in 54.03 to win the 100 backstroke over teammate Michael Lu by .14 while Marsden dominated in the 100 breastroke with a win in 58.37, the only man to break a minute.
Ryan Song is El Camino's top swimmer as he finished third in the 200 IM (2:00.95) while Rio Hondo is paced by Sebastian Estrada, who was 25th in that event.
Nick Padilla was 27th to lead PCC swimmers and Cerritos figures to be led by Johan Gaytan (33rd in the multi-stroke event).
The SCC dual meet season will begin later this month.
The SCC Championships takes place April 17-19 at East LA's indoor stadium pool.

EL CAMINO'S MIA PARK NAMED 2023-24 3C2A WOMEN'S SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
Mia Park, who won six state titles and set several records in her two years swimming at El Camino, picked up another prestigious honor in being named 3C2A Scholar-Athlete for the '23-24 school year.
A 4.0 GPA student-athlete now at UC San Diego, Park previously won the 2024 SCC's Don MacKenzie Scholarship.
