Business As Usual--Mt. SAC, Long Beach Collect 5th Consecutive SCC Women's Basketball Crowns
State #2-ranked Mt. San Antonio College stretched its South Coast Conference North Division winning streak to 33 games in winning its fifth straight women's basketball title while #16 Long Beach City also upped its conference win streak to 35 games and matched the Mounties with its fifth SCC South Division championship in a row.
The Mounties (24-4 overall) earned the #2 seed for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, receiving a Round 1 bye.
The Vikings (21-7) ended up with a bizarre lower #18 seed and will play a Round 1 game at #15 West LA on Wednesday, Feb. 26. If LBCC beats WLAC, it would then face Mt. SAC, a team it upset in the Regional Finals last year to reach the 3C2A State Championship quarterfinals.
The SCC placed four teams overall in the 24-team field as East Los Angeles grabbed the #21 seed at #12 Victor Valley and LA Trade-Tech comes in at #23 and plays at #10 Grossmont.
The 3C2A State Championship Tournament will once again be played at SCC's Mt. San Antonio College March 14-16.
Mt. SAC was again perfect at 8-0 in capturing its 23rd SCC title. Long Beach went 8-0 as well and picked up the program's 11th overall South Coast first-place finish.
The 2024-25 All-South Coast Conference teams were selected on Saturday by the head coaches.
The SCC North Player of the Year was a repeat winner in Mt. SAC's Daisia Mitchell, and Coach of the Year is the Mounties' HC Brian Crichlow, winning that award for the fifth straight season.
Brillana Boyd also was a repeat winner of SCC South Player of the Year while for the third straight year the Vikings had the Coach of the Year, but a different person in first-year HC Dominic Freeman. Interim HC Tay Adams won the award in 2024 and Ollie Brent took the honor in 2023.
