The South Coast Conference continues to a formidable one in the sport of softball as this week's 3CFCA State Top 20 rankings featured Cerritos College at #1, El Camino at #3, Mt. San Antonio at #7, and Long Beach CC at #13.
Cerritos has a 3-2, 9-inning win over defending 3C2A state champion Fullerton and a 5-1 victory to open their 24-game, SCC schedule at LA Harbor on Tuesday.
The Falcons (7-0) have been paced by sophomore transfer catcher Briana Zarate, who is hitting .560 with four home runs and a SCC-leading 13 RBI, and freshman pitcher Tatyana Cortez, who is 4-0 in the circle with 40 strikeouts in 37.2 innings of work.
El Camino is also undefeated at 6-0, have a win over #15 Orange Coast and have posted three double-digit scores in wins, including its conference-opening 12-1 triumph past Rio Hondo.
The Warriors are led by lefty slugging frosh first baseman-outfielder Savanna Kastigar, hitting .684 with two dingers and 12 RBI, and sophomore transfer pitcher Lexi Ramirez, who is 5-0 with a 0.97 ERA, 33 strikeouts (29 IP). She tossed a 5-inning no-hitter v. LA Mission, the first no-hitter by a ECC pitcher in 35 years. El Camino head coach Jessica Rapoza recently recorded her milestone 400th victory.

Seven-time defending SCC champion Mt. SAC is 5-3, but have a close 5-4 defeat v. #5 Palomar, a 2-1, 8-inning loss to #6 Fresno CC and a 5-2 win over #11 Cypress. The Mounties return NFCA All-American catcher Morgan Kneubuhler (.526, nine RBI thus far) and have a solid frosh pitcher in Isabella Guerrero (3-1, 1.45 ERA). Mt. SAC began SCC play with a 9-1 win over Compton.
Long Beach is 6-1 with a 6-5 win over #9 Saddleback, a 5-0 blanking of Fullerton while opening its conference slate by defeating East Los Angeles, 11-0. The Vikings return South Coast 2024 MVP and All-State first baseman Anaya Togia, who already is off to a good start batting .455 with four homers and nine RBI. LBCC also has a top hurler in Adalise Valenzuela, who fired two complete-game shutouts.
Compton, a playoff team last season, is 1-2-2 as freshman pitcher Lauren Kleib had an impressive 8-for-8 streak of batting at the Glendale Tournament and is hitting .750 through five games.
LA Harbor (2-4) returns outfielder Cosette Gerl, batting .526 through six contests while Rio Hondo (2-7) returns to play in the SCC after it was dormant in the sport in 2024. The Roadrunners have a solid player in redshirt sophomore pitcher-outfielder Alexia Mayorga, batting .536 with eight RBI.
East LA (1-6) returns All-SCC honorable mention leftfielder Nathaly Ochoa, who is hitting .400, while Pasadena CC (0-4) brings back a hitting talent in shortstop Breanna Negrete.
The Lancers are dealing with adversity in that their home games have been moved to be all on the road this season due to unsafe conditions at off-campus, City of Pasadena diamond Robinson Park.
Current wet weather in the region has forced postponements of many games this week.
