East LA, Compton, Cerritos Win SCC Men's Basketball Crowns

State #5-ranked East Los Angeles College went undefeated at 10-0 to secure the 2025 South Coast Conference North Division men's basketball title while #21 Cerritos and #25 Compton finished as SCC Co-South Division champions with 9-1 records. 

The Huskies (26-2) won the North crown for the ninth time in the past 11 seasons under head coach John Mosley. State #10-rated Mt. San Antonio (24-4) settled for second place at 7-3. ELAC is on a 24-game win streak (three were forfeited games not played v. SCC opponents for various reasons) with its last defeat, 77-76, v. Cerritos back on Nov. 20. 

The South title went down to the final night of the regular season on Friday with Cerritos (20-8) earning a win over LA Southwest, 78-65, while Compton got past El Camino, 99-82, for its eight straight victory. 

The Falcons won their second straight SCC crown and 29th in South Coast history (first in 1971). Compton captured its first conference championship in eight years and fifth as a member of the SCC.

The Southern California Regional Playoffs bracket was announced on Sunday and East LA received the #3 seed while Mt. SAC got #4. Both teams receive Round 1 byes and will host Round 2 contests on Saturday, Mar. 1. In all, the South Coast had five squads make the 24-team field. 

Cerritos scored the #11 seed and hosts #22 Saddleback, Pasadena City (17-11, third place in the SCC North) picked up the #15 seed and hosts #18 Cuesta, and Compton was the #20 seed and visits #13 MiraCosta as they play in Round 1 playoff games on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The 2024-25 All-South Coast Conference teams were selected on Saturday by the head coaches.

The SCC North Player of the Year is ELAC's Daniel Michelini-Jackson while Mosley was named Coach of the Year. The SCC South Player of the Year is Compton's Zoe Holman and the Coach of the Year Compton's Keith Hollimon.
